A properly fitted harness helps keep your child secure and allows the car seat to perform as designed in a crash. Before every trip, take a moment to check that the harness fits correctly. A correct harness fit and a correct installation location must both be achieved for safe use.
Position Your Child Correctly
Place your child all the way back in the car seat so their back and bottom rest flat against the seat.
Check the Harness Height
The shoulder harness should be at the correct height for your child's seating position.
- Rear-facing: Harness straps should be at or just below your child's shoulders.
- Forward-facing: Harness straps should be at or just above your child's shoulders.
Refer to your instruction manual for instructions on adjusting the harness to the correct position for your model.
Buckle the Harness
Fasten both the buckle and the chest clip, then pull the harness adjustment strap until the harness is snug.
The harness should lie flat against your child's body without twists.
Perform the Pinch Test
Check the harness at your child's shoulder by pinching the webbing between your thumb and forefinger.
- If you cannot pinch any excess webbing, the harness is snug.
- If you can pinch the webbing, tighten the harness and check again.
Position the Chest Clip
Move the chest clip to the armpit level. This helps keep the harness straps properly positioned on your child's shoulders.
Before Every Ride
Before each trip, confirm that:
- The harness is snug using the pinch test.
- The harness straps are at the correct height.
- The chest clip is positioned at the armpit level.
- The harness is not twisted.
- Your child is sitting upright with their back against the car seat.
